Gucci and Interscope Records have released a limited-edition vinyl compilation of Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning album ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’.
Cover art for the limited-edition collection was created by contemporary artist Lauren Halsey, who pays tribute to tracks from the original album and iconic street art in Lamar’s birthplace.
The set, which consists of a double LP enclosed in a custom-designed tan linen vinyl sleeve by Gucci, costs $2,500 and is limited to 100 copies. All of the collection’s total proceeds will be donated to the Iovine and Young Foundation.
Lamar originally titled the album ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ to challenge the notion of being exploited in the industry and the community, and to communicate his new perspective on life and the music industry after a voyage to South Africa.
The sixteen-track album features collaborations with artists including George Clinton, Snoop Dogg, and Thundercat.
Multiple accolades, including two Grammys, an NME Award for Best Album, and a Danish Music Award for International Album, were nominated for “To Pimp a Butterfly.” Throughout his 13-year career, Lamar has won 17 Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and multiple BET and Billboard awards.
