With the winning goal in Thursday’s 1-0 victory against Verona, Moise Kean moved Juventus into the top four of Serie A and extended his team’s five-match league winning streak.
Just after the hour mark in a feisty game at the Stadio Bentegodi, Italy international Kean scored his second league goal of the year to move Juve into third place in the Italian top division.
After a string of disappointing defeats both at home and in Europe, Massimiliano Allegri’s fate has been in doubt, but Juve will remain in the Champions League spots at least until the last games of 2022 this weekend. The last game of the day pits Lazio against Monza, and with a victory at the Stadio Olimpico, they will pass AC Milan and Juventus for second place.
Juve, who take on Lazio on Sunday, are in second place in the league with 10 points, eight points behind Napoli and the defending champions Milan. Juve hasn’t let up a goal throughout their winning run. Weston McKennie, Federico Chiesa, who had just made his comeback, and Dusan Vlahovic were absent from Allegri’s injury-ravaged team. Verona, on the other hand, is still at the bottom of the standings after suffering their ninth consecutive loss and already seems to be headed for Serie B.
The first possible second-half penalty for Salvatore Bocchetti’s squad stemmed from a Danilo handball that referee Marco Di Bello did not award on the field. And after Di Bello had first given a spot-kick for Leonardo Bonucci’s foul on Simone Verdi, another was called off with five minutes left after a VAR review.
