What happens when a stranger on a crowded train in the morning invites the whole compartment to a party?
This is not the beginning of a horrific, socially uncomfortable horror film, but rather a heartwarming Christmas film. It is Christmastime.
A Sky Original, the film’s protagonist, Adam (Harry Potter and How To Get Away With Murder’s Alfred Enoch), defies the first “unwritten law” of any London commute — don’t make eye contact, much less communicate with people.
Adam spends his daily commute to London from the picture-perfect town of Langton with the same individuals. The protagonist is keen to get to know his coworkers better by encouraging them to organise their own Christmas party.
Emma (Kaya Scodelario of Skins) will assist him in overcoming the suspicion of other passengers.
In addition to Timothy Spall (Harry Potter, Enchanted), the ensemble cast also includes Ben Miller (Death in Paradise, Bridgerton), Alexandra Roach (Killing Eve, Channel 4’s Utopia), and Joanna Scanlan (After Love).
Obviously, a Christmas film would not be complete without an abundance of seasonal romance. Adam and Emma seem to be becoming closer in the lead-up to their celebration, but there are likely to be some obstacles for the pair to overcome before they can make their relationship official.

This holiday season, Sky has more than one holiday film in store besides This is Christmas. Suranne Jones of Gentleman Jack will feature in Christmas Carole as the ruthless, grouchy businesswoman Carole Mackay. The ghosts of Christmases past, present, and future will visit her throughout the night, elevating her almost nonexistent Christmas spirit.
Does this ring a bell? This is the most recent version of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It’s not the first movie with a pun in the title (Hallmark did it in 2012 with Carrie Fisher’s It’s Christmas, Carol! ), but it’s bound to be a good time.
This is Christmas will be available to watch on Sky Cinema and NOW from 9 December.
