Jojo Wollacott, a Ghanaian international goalkeeper, sustained an injury prior to yesterday’s 3-3 draw between Charlton and Burton Albion. Wollacott’s inclusion in Ghana’s World Cup squad remains uncertain.
Wollacott, 26, was removed from Charlton’s starting lineup after suffering a finger injury during warm-ups at Pirelli Stadium.
Wollacott, who seemed certain to be included in Coach Otto Addo’s 2022 World Cup roster, is now awaiting the results of a scan to determine his eligibility.
The manager of Charlton, Ben Garner, all but guaranteed that Wollacott would be nominated to Ghana’s team on Monday, adding that he hoped a slight injury would not prevent the goalkeeper from participating in the World Cup.
“We are seeking good news. He will get a scan as soon as we return to London. He had just caught one on his fingertip. We can only hope it’s a ligament or something similar. “He has a little strain,” Garner said.
Simply, we are hoping for good news. Tomorrow, he will go and meet up with Ghana. Hopefully, we receive positive news. Jojo, he is a really level-headed individual. He was dissatisfied before to the game and irritated throughout it. I don’t believe he should have been on the bench, so we decided to bring in an additional outfielder.
Now that he is feeling a little more optimistic, we are hoping that the news is good and he may fly tomorrow.
